Known Steam Impersonators and how to identify

Recommended Posts

There has be a large increase recently in the number of people impersonating other people in Steam with the goal to scam others .  And many high-level Steamers get targeted frequently, almost weekly, but really, anyone can be impersonated. (In the month of January, there were 19 impersonator attempts against my account alone).

Below is an ongoing and updated list of accounts that have impersonated me. Each of these has been reported to Valve, and valve took whatever action they do (or don't).

So what does an impersonator look like?  The short answer is look just like me, or you, or  anyone. They will mimic your name and even use your avatar. Then they usually send trade offers to people on your friends list and others,  offers that are just too good to be true (because they are not true).  Many times they include a link (don't click on those links).

The impersonators know that most people do not look too closely and focus on the "great offer" and worry about missing that offer. They feel, wow Ejay just sent me an offer, it's got to be good because, well it's Ejay.  The seldom notice that the Ejay that sent that offer has a steam level like 0-3 and a private profile.

Things to watch for that may identify an impersonator:

* Low low Steam level

* Private profile

* Unsolicited trade offers  (usually posted to your comment wall)

* An offer that must be acted on immediately

* They want you to trade first

* Links to non-steam pages

Cavet Emptor (buyer beware).

* No honest trader is going to make you hurry and do a deal. If it's a good offer now, it should be a good deal tomorrow, or the next day.

* Most honest traders do not send unsolicited trade offer to people.

* Never trade first

* Always check SteamREP at  Https://steamrep.com to see if there is anything going on with the person making the offer, or any clues that it may not be the person you think it is.

Here is a list of Steam IDs that have impersonated me (and others) in the past and have been reported to Steam. Problem is, it's like playing Wack-a-Mole. More and more keep[ popping up.

      Valve/Steam, in their infinite wisdom doing their absolute best to provide the worst customer service and experiences, did it again with another one of their "what the hell  were they thinking episodes" a few days ago. Apparently Valve  had issues with a scammer site or two in the Steam community which had a domain ending in ".me" .  Of course we all appreciate that they handled that in a prompt manner. Thanks Valve! However, in the spirit of Valve  ever  taking the "cheap and easy way out",  to 'handle it', they all at once, blocked every domain in the Steam community that had a   ".me" extension, including this site  -  www.ejay.me.  Thanks Valve! Eventually realizing their brain-fart moment, Valve restored/unblocked  the .me extension for the hundreds of legitimate sites (like this one),  no doubt after many of us got in their face about it. Well even so, as a result of the above  "just another day at Valve episode" , we decided to create a new domain for this site that better reflects the spirit of what Ejays Circle,  "ejay.me" is really about.  You see, this site is not all about me, Ejay ejjp, it is about all of YOU, a gathering place for all of my friends .  Therefore, we have a new domain name for the site.  Although you can still get here using the old URL, the official main domain name going forward  is,  EjaysCircle.com Thanks for your continued friendship and support. -Ejay

      So with good marketing i suppose, and a super deal, I bought Tropico 6. I admit I have Tropico1-5 and never played them but this one proclaims to be much better that the previous episodes. Well, I did not have much time with it so far (maybe an hour) but looks promising.  Now if I can only figure out how to build a bridge to connect two islands...….
